Thanks to the funding recently got from the Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, in the next three years we will investigate the role of turbulent mixing in the initiation, maintanence and dissipation of phytoplankton blooms in the Galician Rías. This task will involve to revisit the critical depth hypothesis proposed by Sverdrup in 1953.
